Take one brand new Defender 90 County Station Wagon, the vision of Twisted's R&D team and some of the most exciting tuning and styling products on the market and you get Project Twisted, the most head-turning Land Rover ever created!

First order of business was to get under the bonnet and drop in the two most simple, straightforward and bang-for-buck performance upgrades Team Twisted have ever seen. Our revolutionary Hurricane digital performance upgrade was installed in seconds and immediately went to work fettling the engine management program from the ECU to unlock the power potential in the big TD5 lump.

To aid the airflow into the newly-managed engine, we fitted the best filter in the world - the K&N. Cleaner, denser, cooler air means better combustion and that means that the Hurricane could do its job much more effectively. And so it proved.

Taking Project Twisted the short distance back to the rolling road, we saw just how immense such a simple and quick upgrade could be. The K&N bumped power output at the wheels to 132.5bhp...and then we switched in the Hurricane and suddenly we had 158bhp to play with - and all from a modest, plug-in tuning upgrade.

We had awoken something deep in the belly of the so-called 'workhorse' Defender. Once it was back on the road, the induction roar heralded an eager, even nimble driving experience. Coming through the gears fast, we found cruising effortless. Project Twisted was starting to stretch its legs - the only problem was that it still looked...well....standard.
