Fitting Instructions - Discovery 300 Tdi Auto

Switch off ignition

  • Locate ECU in drivers kick panel just to right of accelerator  (assuming RHD, if LHD passenger kick panel).
  • The ECU main plug needs removing, lift stainless clip and plug will raise, there are locating pins at far end which will cause you to lift the raising end of the plug further to de-locate.
  • Gather as much length as possible to allow you to see the wires leaving the ECU plug. Remove some of the heat shrink / conduit.
  • Remove Phillips screw from top of ECU plug to allow you to remove the 55 pin centre to trace wires.
  • On the plug there are the pin numbers, they are quite small, it is important to ensure you connect to the correct wire/pin number. Some of the pins do not have numbers, find the nearest that has and count up/down from that one.

  • Using the supplied connectors connect each of the Hurricane wires to the corresponding ECU wires, make sure you get a good connection.

ECU PIN NUMBER         Hurricane Wire Colour          Function

19                                  Green / Yellow                         Ground
16                                  Brown                                      12v Power Supply
14                                  Blue                                         Control Signal 1
39                                  Black                                        Control Signal 2

  • Connect the Hurricane to the wiring harness.
  • Turn the screw on the end of the Hurricane Box anti clockwise until you hear a click. (this could be up to 40 turns)
  • Start the engine, (do not rev)
  • Turn the adjuster screw clockwise slowly until the engine revs increase, if you turn it too far the engine will splutter. Once you have reached the point the engine revs increase turn back slightly to bring the revs down to approx 800. This should be a good setting.
  • When driving if you want more power turn up very slightly, less power turn down slightly, too much smoke turn down slightly also.
  • Find a suitable cool & dry position for the Hurricane to be mounted. Often by the ECU is the safest place.
  • Cable tie all loose wires.

Fitting Instructions - Hurricane TD5 EARLY Wire In Unit

TD-5 DISCOVERY 1999-2000 & AUTOMATIC
DEFENDER 1999-2000
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
FIT ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS COOL

DISCO – Open up the bonnet.  Remove the big plastic engine cover on the O/H side.
OR
DEFENDER – Remove drivers seat.

You will find the ECU with a BLACK and RED plug.

Unplug the RED one.  You will find 5 YELLOW wires, 4 of which have different coloured spots on them.  (Red, Purple, Brown, Blue)

Take the 5 BLUE 3M connectors and fix the 5 WHITE wires from the Hurricane unit with the 5 YELLOW ones from the harness.  (No particular order)

The BLACK wire is an earth and should be fixed simply to the chassis.

Connect the RED wire to the battery positive/fuse box. Permanent live.

IGNORE the GREY wire.

The PURPLE wire can be earthed and an in-line switch inserted.  This would act as an on/off switch, if required.  If not needed take no action.   Must not be turned on/off when the engine is running.

To maximise performance we recommend the fitment of a K&N performance air filter

Please note that diesel engines require regular oil changes, usually every 6000 miles and oil checks should be made regularly in between services.  Diesel engines should not be driven at high revs until the engine is sufficiently warm.  After running, engines must be allowed to idle for 30 seconds before turning off.  Please advise your insurance company that your engine has been tuned to produce a small increase in BHP.  Quote from our application list.

Fitting Instructions - Hurricane TD5 LATE Wire In Unit

TD-5 DISCOVERY 2001 - 2003
DEFENDER 2001 - 2003

DEFENDER – The ECU is placed under the drivers seat.  Remove the seat.  Remove the cover plate.

Connect the coloured wires from the Hurricane box to the RED connector on the ECU.  Use the following colour table for this.

Hurricane                                                         ECU

RED Connector
Purple (long wire)                                  >Yellow/Purple
Orange                                                          >Yellow/Red

          Yellow-Green                                        >White-Green

IMPORTANT:  Connect the YELLOW/GREEN wire from the Hurricane Box to the WHITE/GREEN wire on the BLACK connector, you will notice more than one GREEN/WHITE wire on this plug.  Attach only to the one on the bottom of the plug, left corner, Looking from the top of the ECU.
Connect the BLACK wire to the Chassis-ground.
Connect the RED wire to the +12 Volt
Place the Hurricane Box near to the original ECU.

First run slowly if the engine is cold.  ONLY if the engine is hot, use the power from the Hurricane.  After running, engines must be allowed to idle for 30 seconds before turning off.

To maximise performance we recommend the fitment of a K&N performance air filter.
